FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH Guitarist On 'Got Your Six': 'It's More Faster And Mid-Tempo Songs'
May 20, 2015Guitarist Zoltan Bathory of Las Vegas-based metallers FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH spoke to Billboard.com about the musical direction of the band's sixth full-length studio album, "Got Your Six", which will be released on August 28.
"It's a little bit more uptempo," Bathory said. "There was a conscious effort that, 'We don't want to have too many slow songs,' you know? We wanted a little bit of an uptempo record. It's more faster and mid-tempo songs."
According to Bathory, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH's heavy touring activity in support of the band's last effort, "The Wrong Side Of Heaven And The Righteous Side Of Hell", was largely responsible for pushing the group in a more aggressive direction. "I think it's coming from the live shows, yeah," he said. "When you're playing live shows you feel the energy of the crowd. It's the high-energy and midtempo songs that make the audience move and connect. You can drop your little ballads here and there, but we know what people like, and when we started everybody said, 'Yeah, we need more of those [uptempo songs].'"
"Got Your Six" was once again helmed by Kevin Churko, the Canadian record producer/engineer and songwriter who currently lives in Las Vegas, where he works out of his private studio, The Hideout Recording Studio.
To promote the CD, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH will embark on a North American co-headlining tour with PAPA ROACH this fall. Also appearing on the bill will be IN THIS MOMENT and FROM ASHES TO NEW.
FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH's new single, "Jekyll And Hyde", will arrive at radio in the coming weeks.
